UK Trip - Day 2 - Edinburgh Fringe

UK Trip - Day 2 - Edinburgh Fringe

Good morning!

I was sorely missing the taste of FRESH FOOD, so today's breakfast is some Mediterranean fare @ The Remedy.

Dad hadn't tried Shakshuka before so I insisted he try it. Note: This will be a running theme on this blog - making people try new foods!

The Shakshuka wasn't what I expected... just look at that fried egg but it was still very tasty. There was a good amount of sauce and the sausage was good. Mine was the "Mediterranean Breakfast" with enough bright and fresh flavours to make up for the last couple of days.

After breakfast we took the tram up the hill and went for a bit of a wander. I'd discovered when dressing this morning that this criminal:

Maxi, a black cat, lying on a bed. She has beautiful yellow eyes and is responsible for the holes in my expensive travel merino shirts.

She had chewed the armpits out of one of my travel merino shirts! I bought a replacement at a local adventure gear store that was having a sale, then we went for a walk.

It's a lovely warm day, so we walked through the gardens, and checked out a crafts market being held in the park. Emma would have spent all day here!

We then headed up the hill towards the castle as we had a show booked in the afternoon. We stopped for some Pho as I was still after fresh bright flavours!

Pho, a bowl of beef broth soup with noodles, beef, mint, coriander, and some chilli added.

It was fine, though we have better at home. On to the show! Whisky and Tales, which was excellent!

Hosted by Little Fish Tours, this was a four whisky flight selected by the host to showcase some of the types and regions of whisky in Scotland, with accompanying tales of the history of whisky production in the country. I'm just going to say that taxation can sure be interesting when there's swords involved!

This was also the first step in introducing Dad to whisky, and as yet he's nonplussed. It apparently all tastes the same to him. We'll work on that! 😄

In the audience for Demi Adejuyigbe's show

Onto the evening's entertainment: Demi Adejuyigbe's Fringe show - Demi Adejuyigbe Is Going To Do One (!) Backflip. I picked this one because I'm familiar with his 9/21 and Dropout work...

It was excellent. A mix of cringe and self-deprecating humour which asks the question "Aren't we all a little cringe?", some current events, some sharp cultural questions, and of course a backflip. It was definitely a legit backflip... Yes. Yes.

A quick dinner after the show - some quite good curry:

Three curries, garlic naan, and some rice. The curries from left to right: Beef Vindaloo, Dal Makhni, Chicken Tikka. National dishes of Britain, right?

Then on to the last show of the evening. "The Best of So You Think You're Funny". No photos unfortunately, but the show was good. Samira Banks was the standout for me, her set was so on point. The venue was a bit crowded and the sound wasn't great, so unfortunately Dad missed a lot of the set. A real shame.

Thanks for reading!
